Maritime Law and Admiralty

Only a handful of law firms in Maine have expertise in and experience with maritime law issues. KRZ has been recognized in this area of law for more than thirty years and often handles maritime law claims referred by other firms. Our clients include injured fishermen and seamen as well as passengers and guests injured on commercial or recreational vessels. We also represent several Protection and Indemnity Clubs.

Our legal experience, knowledge and expertise spans the entire range of maritime law issues, including Jones Act cases, unseaworthiness cases, maritime personal injury, maritime products liability, maritime wrongful death and death on the high seas, maritime passenger and cruise ship injuries, recreational boating injuries, and maritime collisions. KRZ’s admiralty attorneys have represented a wide array of maritime clients, including mates on large commercial fishing vessels, engineers on offshore oil rigs, aquaculture saltwater technicians, cargo ship crew, captains on recreational schooners, ship passengers, and divers.  Many of the above photographs are from actual cases KRZ’s maritime attorneys have handled.

Other maritime issues handled by KRZ include insurance disputes, ship financing, ship collisions, workmanship disputes, maritime contract issues, maritime foreclosures, and fishing regulatory matters.

KRZ was profiled in the “Best of Portland 2018” series for our legal experience and representation in the fishing industry.
