Jennifer Archer Challenges the Denial of MaineCare coverage to Non-Citizens
On April 19, 2012, Jennifer Archer filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Maine on behalf of Hans Bruns, a lawful permanent resident residing in Fort Fairfield, Maine, who has been diagnosed with cancer but is unable to receive important medical care and help with the cost of transportation for treatment because he, and hundreds of others like him, have been denied MaineCare because of their alienage or immigration status. Hans is suffering from debilitating pain and, absent treatment, his condition could result in death within six to twelve months. Joined by the Maine Equal Justice Partners and American Civil Liberties Union of Maine, Jennifer challenges the denial of MaineCare as a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the United States Constitution.
Terry Duddy and Tim Steigelman Present Maritime Law Course to Maine Harbormasters.
On March 21, 2012, Terry Duddy and Tim Steigelman presented the session on Advanced Law to the Maine Harbormasters. Topics included state harbor law, federal admiralty law, municipal liability, and the rules for safe navigation.
Harbormasters are municipal officials who administer their local harbors, regulate mooring, and coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure unobstructed navigation in Maine’s harbors. The State of Maine Harbormasters Association is comprised of over 200 harbormasters and deputy harbormasters from throughout the state.
