John A. McArdle, III to become Vice-President of the Maine Tral Lawyers Association
On March 26, 2010 John A. McArdle, III will become Vice-President of the Maine Tral Lawyers Association. Attorney McArdle presently serves on the MTLA Executive Committee and has served the MTLA in ways including but not limited to testifying before the Maine Legislature, coordinating and directing the Peoples Law School in Portland and speaking at MTLA seminars.
Michael Duddy Admitted to the U.S. District Court for Vermont
On December 1, 2009, Mike was admitted to the U.S. District Court for Vermont. Mike is representing a Vermont hospital in a federal action against two state agencies for the purpose of challenging changes to the state’s Medicaid DSH payment methodology.

John A. McArdle, III will speak at the next MTLA paralegal seminar on the topics of deposition summaries and demand packages. Chuck Remmel and Lauri Boxer-Macomber Win Precedent-Setting Motion for Canadian Plaintiffs
Over the objection of a number of multinational car corporations, Attorneys Chuck Remmel and Lauri Boxer-Macomber successfully moved to intervene in a multi-district class action suit filed in the United States District Court of Maine for the purpose of gaining their Canadian clients access to discovery in the United States action for use in their Canadian suit.
Vermont Superior Court Rules in Favor of KRZ’s Client
On December 8, 2009, the Lamoille County, Vermont Superior Court ruled in favor of KRZ’s client, concluding that Vermont law allows plaintiffs to simultaneously pursue unjust enrichment, quantum meruit and breach of contract claims.
John Kelly Serves as Moot Court Judge
John Kelly recently served as a moot court judge for the Williams/Mystic semester program at the Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. The program is sponsored by Williams College and the Mystic Seaport and chooses up to 20 undergraduates from colleges over the country most of whom are studying maritime science. The students spend a semester studying and doing a sailing trip to the Caribbean. One of the classes is a “Maritime Policy” class that ends with a moot court performance.
Jennifer Archer Named ILAP 2009 Attorney of the Year
Jennifer Archer of Kelly, Remmel & Zimmerman, was named Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project’s 2009 Attorney of the Year. Jen contributed over 330 hours of volunteer time to ILAP’s clients in 2009, and more than 10 of her clients have gained asylum or other immigration benefits this year.

Terry Duddy completed his term as President of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association
R. Terrance Duddy completed his term as President of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association in April 2009 and is now a member of the Executive Board of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association.
During his term as president of the MTLA, Terry was a featured speaker at the two day Litigation Institute and at CLE’s in Eastport and Presque Isle.
As President of the Association, Terry also testified before the House Judiciary Committee on the renomination of Leigh Saufley to be Chief of the Maine Supreme Court and he testified in favor of a number of other State District Court and Superior Court judges who were up for reappointment to the bench.
In addition, during his term as President, Terry worked closely with Peter Pitegoff, Dean of the University of Maine School of Law, to put on a critically important symposium entitled “The Economy, the Courts and the Way Forward: Maine’s Court System in 2014.” The Symposium panel included Governor John Baldacci, Chief Justice Leigh Saufley, Attorney General Janet Mills, Maine State Senate President Elizabeth Mitchell, and Maine Speaker of the House Hannah Pingree. Terry delivered the opening remarks at the Symposium and at the end of the Symposium announced that the Law Review for the University of Maine School of Law will be doing a “Symposium” edition of the Law Review which will focus on the ideas generated by the Symposium.
